Surf’s Up

Finally, the big reveal. Two years ago I posted some simple ideas for garden art on a budget.

I referred to a project I was working on that involved re-purposing an old surf board to decorate an outdoor shower.  This weekend my work was complete. The finished item is now ready to attach to the shower wall (still a work in progress!)

Pics below are self explanatory and show steps – feel free to replicate and share.  It’s been a good way for me to unwind in school holidays and have also enjoyed some good chats with our sons who helped at various stages.

This would be a great wee project for kids to do on their own plus it’s an easy way to recycle those coffee pods that while convenient, are definitely not good for the environment.

To make your own you’ll need:

  • Coffee pods – ask friends and family to donate (I did NOT drink this lot alone!)
  • Craft knife to remove tops of pods
  • Vice to flatten cleaned and dried capsules
  • Hot glue gun
  • Item to decorate – the surfboard was left in our garage by previous owners so cost nothing. I mixed surplus test pots to  paint board. Good way to use them up too.
